Pefkochori


The Pefkohori is situated about 105 km from Thessaloniki to Kassandra peninsula, in an area that could be an ecologist's paradise.

Just the name can give a sense of the natural environment. Surrounded by lush pine forest and olive groves, Pefkohori is one of the little paradise of Halkidiki. According to tradition, the village changed its name from Kapsochora , and in 1805 was burned in Pefkohori . It is not known even earlier name.

The old village impresses with its typical Halkidiki streets and beautiful gardens with colorful flowers. In the northwestern part of the port, where ships anchor now found remains of a Roman settlement. In the same region discovered treasure with coins of Lysimachus, who was king of Thrace. Around 1590, the region referred to the Great Glebe "Anders" Iviron Monastery, which was expropriated before the war. Survives only partly ruined windmill. The residents of Pefkohori participated in the revolution of 1821. A great fighter revolution of 1821 was George Giannakis.
